Whether you are healing from childhood trauma, a recent accident or painful relationship injuries, EMDR supports you in changing the impact of what happened, not your story.
EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is an evidence based trauma therapy that helps your brain reprocess overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel so charged.
At Couples Counselling Centre, EMDR is offered within a human, attachment focused relationship. We pay close attention to safety, pacing and your nervous system so that healing happens at a speed that respects your story.
If any of this sounds familiar, you are not alone and it is not your fault. Trauma changes how the brain stores information, and EMDR gives it another way to file those memories.
EMDR at Couples Counselling Centre is not a rushed protocol. It is a carefully supported process that honors your limits and your goals.
Our EMDR trained clinicians are relationship focused, trauma informed, and grounded in attachment science. You will not be handed worksheets and sent home. Instead, we do experiential work in session, from the inside out.

Every person and every story is different. Some people notice meaningful shifts within several sessions, while others choose to stay in therapy longer to work through complex or layered trauma. In your early sessions, your therapist will collaborate with you on a tentative plan that is revisited as you go.

Yes. EMDR can be highly effective in a virtual format. We use secure video and adapt bilateral stimulation methods so you can participate from home. Many clients find it easier to process difficult material from a space that already feels familiar and safe.
